1- initial phone call to discuss needs

How did you get started in this business?
Initially hired by a CPA firm after completing college, then went on to spend approximately 1/3 of my career in industry and various positions including CFO of an Inc. 500 company ranked in the top 20% for growth. Have set up CPA firms in Michigan and my current firm was established in 2002 in Arizona.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I structured a new client to set up a new business utilizing his self-directed 401(k) funds so that he could also work in that business and receive benefits. Upon sale of the business, the sales value would go back directly into his self-directed 401(k) plan for retirement.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
First, develop and specify to the professional what exactly your goals and objectives are, then request from the professional what their approach would be in assisting you to achieve these results.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Clients need to understand and have defined the specific goals and objectives that they want to accomplish whether that be in completing an individual tax return and reducing the tax or in achieving the growth goals of their business while minimizing the tax and making the operation run very efficiently.
